This guide will help you install CCM (Cisco Call Manager) on a none MCS (Media Convergence Server) for lab purposes only, do not ask Cisco TAC for support

Software needed: -

  • Original Windows 2k Advanced Server (service pack 4)
  • Service pack 4 if you do not have it on the above CD
  • win-OS-upgrade-K9.2000-2-7.exe (from CCO)
  • win-OS-upgrade-K9.2000-2-7sr2.exe (from CCO)
  • Registry hack hwcheck.reg
  • Registry hack oscheck.reg

1: install Windows 2000 Advanced Server with the following

  • Accessories and utilities
  • Indexing services
  • IIS
  • Management and monitoring tools
  • Assign a static IP and default gateway

Important!
"If you miss any of the above out, when you run the win-OS-upgrade-K9.2000-2-7.exe process and your system reboots, it will not continue the install"

At this point I set up a temporary my IP address so it matched that of my internet access, this is so I can download IE6 service pack, after this is done you can set it back to your own private network, or whatever you like

Because we are pre plug and play at this stage you may need to load you video drivers, sound card or any other devices that you want to load

2: Install Service Pack 4 (if your win2k install cd has no service packs)
3: Install IE6 service pack

4: Apply the registry patches

5: Run win-OS-upgrade-K9.2000-2-7.exe

  • Your server should reboot twice, logon with the same username and password as you did before and the install will continue, if the set-up fails to continue when you log back in you missed the important bit out, you could try going to the control panel, add and remove programs, windows components and install the components that you have missed and try the install win-OS-upgrade-K9.2000-2-7.exe again to see if that moves the install on, I have not tried it myself, if it fails you will have to start again!

Run win-OS-upgrade-K9.2000-2-7sr2.exe, PC will reboot when complete

Now you need to make sure that the IP address you are going to use on your network is setup now, I always use 10.10.0.1 255.255.255.0 with a gateway of 10.10.0.254

Insert CCM disk 1, if you get an error message:
Create process: error 2: The system can not find the specified file, then you will need to copy shutdown.exe from c:\program files\cisco\updates\2000-2-7sr2 into c:\utils
Reinsert the CCM 1 CD, the PC should then reboot and when you log back in the install process will begin

You will be prompted for the serial number when the install begins and also an administrator password, I used the one I used for the win2k server,

You will also be asked for a private password phrase which again I kept the same as the win2k install password

SQL then wants a password, I kept it the same as the rest

Directory manager password, again the same kept

hwcheck.reg=
