Creating Custom Ring Tones

You can create you own custom ring list by editing the file " RingList.xml", but before you do that you may want to convert a .wav file for the use on your Cisco phone which is a .raw file, the procedure for both is below

Converting a .wav to .raw

1. Open your .wav file in Windows Sound Recorder and select a .wav to convert

2.Select Save As from the file menu then click the Change button at the bottom

3.From the pop-up window, select CCITT u-Law in the format option and press OK

4 Type in the name of your file with a .raw extension like below and select save.

Taken from Cisco
The PCM files for the rings must meet the following requirements for proper playback on Cisco IP Phones:

RawPCM (no header)

8000 samples per second
8 bits per sample
uLaw compression
Maximum ring size - 16080 samples
Minimum ring size - 240 samples
Number of samples in the ring must be evenly divisible by 240
Ring should start and end at the zero crossing

You can use any standard audio editing packages that supports these file format requirements to create PCM files for custom phone rings

Adding Custom Tones to CCM

1. copy the .raw files over to the tftp directory on CCM, this is normally located c:\program files\Cisco\TFTPPATH

2. Edit Ringlist.xml from c:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\ with notepad, below is a cut down version of the original

3. Add the following lines, for my example I was adding CTU24.raw

<Ring>
<DisplayName>CTU</DisplayName>
<FileName>CTU24.raw</FileName>
</Ring>

4. Restart the TFTP server, the quickest way to do this is by clicking start > Programs > Administrative Tools > service

5. Right mouse click on Cisco TFTP services and click Restart

6. From the Cisco IP phone press the settings button (images from IP Communicator)

7. Press select on User Preferences, Rings, Default Ring and scroll down to the of the tone you have just created and press select then press save, your new tone is now the default tone
